1994 Camaro won’t start, turn key and nothing, security light on?
A few months back my son would get in his car and turn the key and it wouldn’t start. The security light was on. He left it alone for a couple of hours and tried again and it started. It happened several more times. Yesterday same thing only now it will not start. He took the starter off and had it tested and its good, battery and alternator are also good. Anyone have any ideas?
The 94 Camaro has a VATS/PassKey system, which is turning the security light on when you try to start it.
One possibility is that the resistor in the key is damaged or dirty. If you have another key, try that. If the chip in the key wiggles or the contacts are dirty, that might be the problem.
If it’s not the key, you might need some electrical work done on the security system to get it running again. If you’re good with electrical work, you can get wiring diagrams (Haynes repair manuals include them) and try to do it yourself.
