Manual Traffic Exchanges : What Are They ?
Recently I was in need of some cheap advertising that would get an advert in front of a lot of people in a short period of time, more importantly the advertising budget for this project was next to nothing !
I searched the web in search of this elusive form of advertising and eventually came back to an old friend of mine that I had neglected in the past ! What I am talking about is advertising on the numerous manual traffic exchanges that exist on the web today. Most are free to join and free to show your adverts, so offer a very cheap form of advertising !
Now I know what you are asking is “What the heck is a manual traffic exchange ?”, or maybe you already know what one is and are wondering “What are the best traffic exchanges ?”, well worry not because I have decided to write this article and explain the whys and wherefores on manual traffic exchanges.
Firstly you will notice that I refer to Manual traffic exchanges and not just traffic exchanges, this is because there also exists auto traffic exchanges or auto surf exchanges as they are sometimes known. This is where the first bit of explaining needs to be done.
A manual traffic exchange is a website where you are shown other members adverts / websites / offers etc. for a period that can vary anywhere between 5 to 30 seconds. After that period you click on the required icon on the toolbar and are then shown the next advertisement. After viewing each advertisement, your account is credited with a credit / part credit that you can use to show your advertisement to the other manual traffic exchange members. The amount you are credited per viewing varies from exchange to exchange, most of the better ones offering a 1:2 / 1:3 credits per view for the free members. What this means is that you must view 2 or 3 advertisements so you can earn one credit. One credit is equal to one showing of your advertisement.
The advantage of a manual traffic exchange is that there is a good chance your advert will be read, the disadvantage is that you must sit at your computer and click after each advert you are shown. I will explain in my next post how to get the most from manual traffic exchanges and how you can get at least 1,000 credits for about 30mins – 1hour surfing.
An auto traffic exchange is the same as a manual one, except that you do not need to sit in in front of your computer to view the adverts, it is all done automatically, no clicking icons, waiting up to 30 seconds etc, in fact most people leave their computer “surfing” overnight when they go to bed !
The advantage of an auto traffic exchange is obviously not having to sit at your computer surfing, leaving it to “auto surf”, whilst you got to bed, the disadvantage is almost every other member is doing the same, so hardly anyone reads your advert ! Personally I do not bother with auto traffic exchanges.
Hopefully you now get the idea of what a traffic exchange is and how it can give your advert 1,000′s of impressions for a little work on your part, but more importantly for no outlay. However to get the most from your advert, please remember the following :
Most members of a manual traffic exchange are surfing to increase their own credit count, just as you will be probably doing, however they are all potential buyers, so make your advert headline eye catching and get your message across quickly, you may only have 5 seconds on their screen to grab their attention and click through to your offer. Also make sure your advert loads quickly, so it gets seen in the time limit. I have seen members put a full page of text as long as this article, with no real headline, also adverts that do not even load in the time given, both a waste of a credit ! I always use a splash page, hosted on a fast server, to make sure it at least loads in time, then it is up to the advert to do its’ job !
